The neighborhood is nearby the famous Canada Olympic Park. West Springs is surrounded by 69 Street W to the east, Canada Olympic Park, the community Cougar Ridge, and Old Banff Coach Road to the north, acreages and homes of Springbank to west, and Bow Trail to south.

West Springs, which was part of an East Springbank area of the Municipal District of Rocky View was annexed to Calgary in 1995. West Springs was not established until six years later in 2001.

In 2008, West Springs had a population of 6,184. The median household income of residents was $106,411 in 2005. Only 375 households, approximately 7.0% were low income; 24.0% of the population consisted of immigrants as well.

In 2010, the Calgary Board of Education will be opening up a new elementary school for kindergarten through 4th grade. Other schools in the area include Wildwood for kindergarten through 6th grade, Vincent Massey for grades 7 through 9, and Ernest Manning for grades 10 through 12.
